Scientific Computing for Cognitive Neuroscience: Tutorials and Practical Applications
Textbook Link Below
We are developing an open-access textbook to bridge the gap between psychology, neuroscience, and essential computing skills. Many cognitive neuroscience experiments require technical expertise—such as command line usage, remote server access, and version control—that is not typically taught in these fields.
Scientific Computing for Cognitive Neuroscience: Tutorials and Practical Applications, created by students at Barnard College's Visual Cognition Lab, provides both foundational and advanced lessons in scientific computing. Our goal is to make these skills accessible to a wider audience, supporting students and researchers in cognitive science.
By offering structured tutorials, we aim to reduce dropout rates in computationally intensive fields, particularly among underrepresented students. The textbook is divided into foundational and advanced sections, allowing learners to explore topics at their own pace and gain confidence in working with large datasets—a crucial aspect of cognitive neuroscience research.
